Every gambler worth a hill of beans needs to understand the lingo of the game. While the gambling world is full of lingo, today I’ll present some of the more common and interesting words and phrases you should know. Action - The action is the total amount of money that’s wagered. It’s also a term that can be used to signify that an amount of money is in play.

Ante - This is a poker term that means the amount of money one needs to pony up to get into the action. You’ll see it in regular poker, Caribbean Stud and other games.

Bankroll - Your bankroll is the amount of money you have to gamble with. It could be an amount of money for the night, a week, a sports season or whatever.

Betting Right or Wrong - At the Craps table, you are betting right when you’re betting with the dice-a pass line wager. And you’re betting wrong when you’re going against the dice.

Biased Wheel - A Roulette wheel that seems to be favoring one part of itself-ball seems to land in one section a bit more often than other sections.

Burn Card - This is the first card of a new deck that’s discarded before play begins.

Cage - It’s the cashier’s cage. This is where you cash in your chips, cash checks and so forth.

Face card - The Jacks, Queens and Kings of a deck of cards.

Field Bet - In Craps, a field bet is a one-roll wager that wins if the combination of the dice is a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12.

Greens - Green casino chips valued at $25 each. Dealers, etc will typically talk about chips by their color-greens, blacks, reds, etc.

Hole card - In Blackjack, this is the dealer’s card that’s face down on the felt.

House Advantage - This is the difference between the actual (or real) odds and the payout. The house maintains an advantage in all games, but some are way more than others. For instance, the Pass Line wager in Craps has a much smaller house edge than playing Roulette and thus that wager in Craps is better for players over the long run.

Random Number Generator - Also called the RNG, it’s a little computer program that constantly picks random numbers. These numbers then generate an outcome-like in a slot machine. When you go to play the slot machine, a number is spit out randomly. This determines if you win or lose. And there you have it. Some interesting gambling terms that you should know.

There is no doubt about the significance of a poker room for a player who loves casino poker. In order have a good game the player has to select a good poker room and for this you have to give attention to several factors such as convenient of depositing and withdrawal option in the poker room, availability of different games and so does players, opponents of different levels, quality software, bonuses, support and other things. These are the things that a poker room must provide to the players in order to became popular among the players. While selecting a poker room you have to look out for these characteristics of the poker rooms. You don’t have enough choices left when you are only dealing with credit for depositing and withdrawal of funds and bank transfer. But for players who use several other modes for depositing and withdrawal of money such as through accounts in the e-wallets like netteller or money bookers then they have a lot more choices.

The next obvious thing that a player should think about is the availability of types of poker games and the limits in it. There are different kinds of poker games in the online sites and accordingly you may like it. There is also poker games where there is a certain limit or no limit plays, and games like the Texas holdem poker, Omaha poker, and stud poker has many admirers. Since all players may not like the same game the poker room must have different kinds of poker games.

Again, when you are playing to win money you need to find out a poker room where there are no strong players. This way you always have the chance to win more in the table. There are several poker rooms where least number of professional players attends to play poker and you have to find out those rooms.

Apart from these things you have to also concern about the software that are used in the poker rooms. There are many different types of software poker rooms uses like Ongame, Prima, and Party poker. In some poker rooms you can also find the Poker trackers but some prefer not to use this. However, the player must think about the game rather than about the poker room. Whatever the poker room and its facilities, if you are playing well then you have the maximum chance of winning in the game and the reverse can also be true if you do not play good poker.

Bluffing: Sometimes nothin’ can be a real cool hand

In poker it’s not only what’s in your hand that counts, but also what people think is in your hand. If you bet as though you have good cards, other players just may believe you do have good cards. Therein lies the essence of bluffing.

Of course there are good times to bluff and bad times as well. Here are a few insights into bluffing.

Don’t - Bluff bad players. Bad players don’t necessarily know when they are beaten. So even though you may present yourself as having the stronger hand, they simply may not notice or may not care. - Don’t expect bluffs to work in low limit hold’em. If the cost to see your cards is not significant, why should your bet (or raise) keep anyone from paying to see them? - Try to bluff many players. You may fool some of them, but if you don’t fool everyone you are in trouble.

Do: - Bluff when the board says “someone” might have made a good hand. An example is when the third of a suit hits the board. “Someone” might have a flush. If you bet as if you have the flush, the other players may believe you do. - Bluff against good or tight players. If you are in a pot with a player that looks for a reason to fold, give them one. Try betting big and making them think you have something they cannot beat.

Bluffing is something that is done between players, so the more you know your opponent’s habits the better. If a player is a ‘calling station’ and always calls bet so they can get to the next card or see the showdown, don’t bother trying to bluff them.

If players have caught you bluffing recently, they will remember it. If you try to bluff again too soon do not be surprised if someone calls you, just to ‘keep you honest’. Of course this can be used to your advantage. If you find yourself with good cards right after being caught bluffing, you are more likely to have players call your bets, rewarding you with a bigger pot.

Some circumstances have risen as ‘typical’ bluffing situations. They can be used to your advantage, but veteran players may recognize the play and use it against you. Typical bluffs include: - Sitting in late position pre-flop. Everyone folds before you. You then bet big, knowing that there are only two players competing against you and that they didn’t bet because they liked their hand. They bet because they had to. The players may interpret your big bet as a sign of strength and simply fold. You will have “stolen the blinds”. - Betting big from last position after everyone else has checked. You can interpret their checks as a lack of confidence in their cards. They may interpret your bet as a strong hand and fold.

Bluffing is an art, and it spices up the game of poker. Make bluffing a part of your arsenal, but not your only weapon at the poker table.

Poker Starting Hands - “AK Big Slick, Playing it right”

Starting Hands - “AK Big Slick, Playing it right”

Ace King … It’s monster hand and you plan to get as much money out of everyone as you can.

Big Slick is called Big Slick for a reason. Yes its a monster drawing hand but it is a drawing hand all the same.

IF you hit either an Ace or a King on the flop then you’ve got yourself top pair with the best kicker. You might get lucky as is connected to get the nuts straight, if its suited you have got the table crippled if you draw that flush. It’s worth noting A-K suited is 5th best starting hand but A-K off is 9th best.

But this is the thing - when you haven’t seen any cards what have you got really ? An Ace high … with a King kicker, just about any starting hand could beat it.

Top players know AK is a great drawing hand but they also know its can be a killer if it just doesn’t work out. In the hands of a new player it has 4king bustout written all over it, quite simply they fall in love with it.

Now here is the next problem with playing AK - OK it’s a drawing hand so your thinking - don’t play it too hard until you see the flop and then you can work out how your doing … Wrong.

Limping in with Big Slick is going to make you a big underdog - It is an easily beaten hand if you let lots of players see the flop, that ragged looking board could have given any of them trips, two pair, straights - allsorts. However AK doesnt fair so badly against a couple of player with other high cards.

You have to play big slick hard before the flop if your playing it. Get rid of all the players with low pairs, big draws and junk - With a big prefop raise you can be fairly sure the one (ideally) or two players left only have something high or decent pairs. Then you have the added advantage - you made the raise and you took control … again.
Dont make the mistake of trying to keep more people in to make a bigger pot for your “great hands” - thats how to make your own bad beats.

With most of the players in to see the flop your as good as giving your chips away - Play it aggressively, raise pre-flop and then hold yourself back when you see the flop.

But DO NOT go all-in before the flop - remember you’ve got an Ace high nothing more.

In this situation the only hands that are really going to cause you concern are AA and KK - but if someone had that they’d have come right back at your big raise with an all-in before the flop.

Chances are unless they hit trips with there good pair (see what they do) you can fire at them once you pair either the King or the Ace - infact you should fire out a good size bet even if you dont - remember you’ve already as good as shouted at them “my hands is a winner”.

Then see what they do - if they come back at you know they’ve got something, probably trips - then you need to slow down accept your beat and try to see the rest of the cards cheap.

The chances are they will lay down just about most things that dont hit.

Now this all works well if you were easily able to take control of the table ie. you had good position to get a big raise in after you had seen what everyone else did but remember preflop this is - on the button and the two blinds. The worst postion to be trying to play AK from and indeed any other big hands like AA KK QQ is when your under the gun - this is the first seat after the blinds.

Why ? well your first to act before the flop and first to act after the flop. This seat is tricky especially if you dont hit an Ace or a King on the flop. Again the temptation is to flat call and see what happens ideally hoping someone else cuts the field down for you - thats risky - dont do it. Not only are you risking players limp in, your letting other players get control.

They will sense weakness and have position over you so you could very easily end up facing an all-in decision after re-raising a bet and someone coming back at you over the top all-in with a half decent pair. Then its become a tough decision with that Ace high of yours - lay it down. No by raising even in early position you will take control and narrow the field and against one, maybe two players you have a good chance to avoid AK becoming that Big Slick.

Differences between online and conventional poker

Differences between online and conventional poker

There are substantial differences between online poker gaming and conventional, in-person gaming.

One obvious difference is that players do not sit right across from each other, removing any ability to observe others’ reactions and body language. Instead, online poker players learn to focus more keenly on betting patterns, reaction time and other behavior tells that are not physical in nature. Since poker is a game that requires adaptability, successful online players learn to master the new frontiers of their surroundings. Another less obvious difference is the rate of play. In brick and mortar casinos the dealer has to collect the cards, then shuffle and deal them after every hand. Due to this and other delays common in offline casinos, the average rate of play is around thirty hands per hour. Online casinos, however, do not have these delays; the dealing and shuffling are instant, there are no delays relating to counting chips (for a split pot), and on average the play is faster due to “auto-action” buttons (where the player selects his action before his turn). It is not uncommon for an online poker table to average sixty to eighty hands per hour.

This large difference in rate of play has created another effect among online poker players. In the brick and mortar casino, the only real way to increase your earnings is to increase your limit. In the online world players have another option, play more tables. Unlike a physical casino where it would be nearly impossible to play multiple tables at once, most online poker rooms allow a player to be on up to 4 tables at once. For example, a player may make around $10 per 100 hands at a lower limit game. In a casino, this would earn them under $4 an hour, which minus dealer tips would probably barely break even. In an online poker room, the same player with the same win rate could play four tables at once, which at 60 hands per hour each would result in an earning of $24/hour, which is a modest salary for somebody playing online poker. Some online players even play eight or more tables at once, in an effort to increase their winnings.

Another important change results from the fact that online poker rooms, in some cases, offer online poker schools that teach the basics and significantly speed up the learning curve for novices. Many online poker rooms also provide free money play so that players may practice these skills in various poker games and limits without the risk of losing real money. People who previously had no way to learn and improve because they had no one to play with now have the ability to learn the game much more quickly and gain invaluable experience from free money play.

Tracking play

Tracking poker play in a B&M casino is very difficult. You can easily monitor your winnings, but tracking any detailed statistics about your game requires a player to take notes after each hand, which is cumbersome and distracting. Conversely, tracking poker play online is easy. Most online poker rooms support “Hand Histories” text files which track every action both you and your opponents made during each hand. The ability to specifically track every single played hand has many advantages. Many third-party software applications process hand history files and return detailed summaries of poker play. These not only include exact tallies of rake and winnings, which are useful for tax purposes, but also offer detailed statistics about the person’s poker play. Serious players use these statistics to check for weaknesses or “leaks” (mistakes that leak money from their winnings) in their game. Such detailed analysis of poker play was never available in the past, but with the growth of online poker play, it is now commonplace among nearly all serious and professional online poker players.

7 Critical Factors You Must Know Before You Play Any Hand in Texas Hold’em Poker

Being a poker professional I receive tons of emails and questions about how to play certain hands or what I would do in a particular situation. In this article I’ve outlined seven critical factors you need to be aware of any time you play Texas Hold’em poker.

Use this article as an outline to help make the best possible decisions when playing poker. All of these factors are very important to understand if you want to be a successful Texas Holdem player.

1. Table Position.

The first thing to notice when playing Holdem is where you’re at on the table. There are good positions and bad positions.

The best position is when you’re on the button. That is the Dealer Button. The reason for this is because you get to act last and see what everyone else does before you.

The worst position in my opinion is the small blind. Since you have a little money already in the pot you may play marginal hands that you wouldn’t otherwise. Thus you get yourself into a lot more pots when you really shouldn’t be. Most of the time these come back to bite you.

2. The Read on Your Opponents

The read you have on your opponents is all important. Depending if you’re playing against real loose players or real tight players will greatly help in choosing what hands to play and how to play them. The best way to get a read on your opponents is to simply watch how they play when you’re not playing.

3. Number of Players at the Table

The number of people at a table is important mainly because it will increase or decrease the strength of your hand. If you have a full table of ten you’re A,T suited won’t be nearly as strong as if your playing at a short-handed table of five or six. All of a sudden that A,T suited is now very strong.

4. Number of Players in the Hand

This goes along with rule number two but with a slight variation. When everyone at a full table folds except for you and one opponent; immediately your hand strength has grown stronger.

However, you need to be aware of one thing. You must be aware of all the other cards that were folded. Granted you won’t know what they were but you can make an educated guess based on the read you have on other players. Most of the time your opponents folded because they didn’t catch a monster hand. Even if there are loose players at the table and they folded. You know they folded junk or they would still be in the hand.

Therefore if you have a low to middle pair the likelihood of you hitting trips on the flop diminishes. So you need to proceed with caution. On the other hand if you have A,Q suited be aggressive in your play.

5. Your Cards

What are your cards? This is important. Right? Now you will see some of the pros talk about how they don’t even have to look at their cards sometimes because they know their opponents so well. If you’re reading this my guess is you’re not one of them. Therefore, the cards we’re dealt have a dramatic impact on our ability to win. We must be patient. And when the right hands are dealt we need to be ready to pounce and win big pots.

6. Chip Stacks

The reason chip stacks are important is because people play differently when the size of their chip stack changes. For example, if you’re the short stack you may play more tightly waiting for that right hand. At the same time if you’re the chip leader you may get so aggressive and try to bully people around and steal blinds. Now I’m not saying either way is the right or wrong way to play. It’s just important to know how your opponents begin to change their play as their chip stacks change. How do you change your play when you’re the short stack or the chip leader?

7. Table Action

What’s going on before you? Does the guy to your right always lay down big raises? It’s important to pay close attention to what the action is doing before it comes to you. If someone raises, and then two people reraise and you’re sitting on QQ you may want to lay it down. You can safely assume someone if not two people have AA and KK leaving you on the short end of the stick if you choose to play.

Remember, poker takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master. Understand and use these seven critical factors to help you master the game and win a lot more when you play Texas Holdem poker.

Funding Your Online Poker Account

The most common methods of funding and withdrawing from a poker room account are:

• Credit cards
• Cashier’s checks, wire transfers or bank drafts
• Online funds transfer services

Almost all of the online poker rooms accept credit cards. However, most credit card companies will not authorize a charge for online gambling. Even if the bank performs the transfer, it will treat the transaction as a cash advance, which means you will pay a transaction fee of a few percent, plus a higher interest rate that begins accruing immediately.

Most sites also accept bank wires or bank drafts (a check from your bank to theirs), but usually not personal checks. Your bank will charge you a fee in the $20 to $50 range for either service. Mailing a bank draft overseas will take several weeks while the bank wire only takes a day or two. Neither option is very convenient.

So, what’s the best way to fund you online poker account? You guessed it – online funds transfer services. Neteller, in particular. There are many funds transfer services, but Neteller is the best and will be the focus of this article.

With Neteller, the customer doesn’t need to enter their credit card or bank details at every website with which they wish to transact. Rather, they enter these details only once and are then able to make quick and secure transactions at thousands of websites.

Neteller provides its customers with a variety of convenient ways to load and withdraw funds from their accounts, including several instant transfer methods: credit card deposits, instaCASH bank account transfers, and transfers using the Neteller ATM cards.

Transfers between Neteller and the poker sites are usually free. A basic transfer from your bank to Neteller is free and usually only takes a day or two. You can also request a check or use their ATM card to withdraw for a small free.

Neteller also offers player to player transfers and gives cash giveaways. Every time you move your money through Neteller, you earn NETpoints. You can use these points to sign up for cash drawings. I’ve never won any cash from them but I must say, it is an interesting and creative way of rewarding a client base.

Setting up a Neteller account is free and only takes a few minutes. Just go to http://Neteller.com and fill out the form. If you need help, you can chat with a live representative.

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. — Expansion plans for the Argosy Casino are growing, with Penn National Gaming Inc. increasing the budget for a much larger floating casino, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

The estimated cost of the new two-story, 250,000-square-foot barge is $310 million, a $44 million increase, according to the company’s quarterly financial report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission last week. Penn National of Reading, Pa., acquired Argosy last year.

The planned opening of the all-new facility has been pushed back from the second quarter of 2008 to the fourth quarter of that year.

The larger barge will have room for up to 4,000 gambling positions at slot machines and gaming tables on the main level and another 400 on the second level, along with restaurants and a 30-table poker room.

The project also includes a new 1,500-space parking garage expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2007. Infrastructure upgrades will make access to the casino more convenient, the company said.

Argosy is the largest of the three riverboat casinos in the Greater Cincinnati market and accounts for more than half of the three boats total wagers and gambling revenues. The existing Argosy Casino now has three levels with a total of 24,300 square feet of gambling space with about 2,400 slot machines

Poker Player is Selling His Face on Ebay

Eric Frey, a 31 year old husband and father of Toledo, Ohio has posted an auction on ebay for the purchase of a company’s advertisement to be permanently tattooed on his forehead, neck, leg, and arm. Frey says he has wanted to purchase a new tattoo but was having a difficult time deciding what to get. His wife suggested letting someone on ebay choose, which led him to sell advertising space on his body.

Eric says he is hoping to target the online poker industry, he quotes, “I play a great deal of online poker as well as live poker. My weekends are spent in Detroit casinos such as Greektown and MGM; I’m hoping one day to play in the World Series of Poker”. Not only does Frey like to play poker, he recently launched an informational poker website www.pokerbonusworld.com. It wouldn’t be surprising if an online poker company were to take Eric up on his offer. In June of 2005 a woman named Kari Smith tattooed GoldenPalace.com on her forehead. Smith’s eBay auction attracted more than 27,000 hits and 1,000 watchers. Bidding reached $999.99 before Goldenpalace.com met Smith’s $10,000 asking price.

The auction will be running for ten days providing someone doesn’t buy before then.
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZwwwpokerbonusworldcom.After the buyer has purchased, Eric plans to hire a tattoo artist to come to his home to perform the tattooing. Also, it will be performed live via webcam so people all around the world are able to watch this unusual yet interesting event take place.

While it is unknown if the Ohio poker players face, neck, arm, and leg will be purchased for advertising, it is known that the auction will surely become an attention grabber. Assuming someone does win the auction, Eric Frey will be known as a walking pop-up!
